In case it helps to have another voice on this, Robin, I was in a similar situation on a project where there were lags and delays and some red flags that one of the final deliverables didn’t make sense (if people aren’t showing up for the original training, running a training-of-trainers is….kind of purposeless)
I had a firm fixed price contract that had phased deliverables with estimated LOE connected to each (government funded, so there needed to be a more detailed cost basis for the costs). I recommended that we functionally cancel the deliverables for the third phase, and I only billed for Phases 1 & 2. I wasn’t in a position of needing to refund the money, but took initiative on what felt like an ethical solution to me.

I did push back on the terms and their response was “well, sustainability is really important…but I suppose if these really are too much, we could strike them.” It helps me to hear that I’m not alone in pushing back on those kinds of terms, which seem very clearly oriented to more of this orgs manufacturing suppliers. Haven’t signed yet, but seems like we’re getting closer to an agreement.
(And I’ll add to anyone reading this thread – do make sure to read contracts before you sign them, even ‘form’ contracts like an organization’s master services agreement! IP protections and other clauses are super important to be aware of. If I had signed as written, I’d be on the hook for more than $5k in reporting filing fees and certifications that I otherwise don’t need.)

I have similar terms that I’ve used before, but sometimes clients (particularly ones where I’m doing work with a small team within a much larger entity) are really resistant to changing their standard MSA language.

We use Squarespace for the DVS website and it works well, with the benefit of various integrations with other out of the box tools (like Memberspace for member management and gating content) because of how widely used it is. As a nonprofit, it costs us around $600/year for the commerce version that we use, in case that dollar figure helps.
I’ve used Strikingly and like it for a single page site / landing page, but less so if you need to build something out with multiple pages and user paths.

I also work in health, with a background in public health (MPH) and a focus on data visualization – the Tanzania trip was for an immunization data registry program. I’ve bounced between being a data person within a public health org, a data person in tech (with some work in health and some very far away from that topic, like consulting at Marriott International headquarters), and now as an independent consultant splitting time across different health clients.
I’d love to know more about what kinds of services you intend to offer as you work through the Boost and Bloom course, particularly if I heard of interesting work that may be aligned to your areas of expertise!
Excited to connect with more data-focused entrepreneurs – thanks for sharing your story!
Hi Tait! I’m also in DC over in Southwest – would love to find a time to meet up for lunch or coffee if you like!
You and I have a very different list of top five strengths, which is exciting especially in this kind of group cohort where I expect we may have different questions on the same modules.
Here’s my top five list:
1. Stretegic
2. Activator
3. Individualization
4. Woo
5. AchieverLooking forward to connecting!
