I am so behind on posting/reading the Q & A and want to post a victory lap for @lori for choosing “Just Graphic Designs” as her business name! Congratulations on this important milestone.

Thank you for that. I would love to connect to chat about how you’ve “come out the other side”.

    Hi Veronica

I think I will make the waters murkier with my response. I use wix because it is a very user-friendly back end that requires minimal coding knowledge to update and publish.  I also chose it because of the number of integrations that could support my business as it grows. The templates afforded more flexibility to do a cascading menu page design without needing code (though that page does take a second longer to load).

Happy to chat further and hope this was helpful,

    Dana

    Good morning everyone!
It is a privilege to meet and read about you all. Thank you for your willingness to be vulnerable and for sharing your stories, your wins, your losses, and challenges. Reading your posts confirmed I made the right decision to be here. I am founder of Back of the Napkin Consulting LLC, located in Boston MA.

I might win the superlative for “latest registration” and am grateful to Stephanie for the encouragement to join you all. I was reluctant to jump in because, like many of you, I have a tiny human (age 2) and am in the midst of some difficult identity and balance struggles.

My work lives at the intersection of program and evaluation (mixed methods) design for program improvement, fundraising, and advocacy; participatory evaluation construct design and implementation; and user engagement for data collection system(s) design. I am happiest when I am building community and demystifying evaluation and data systems so clients are empowered to own their work and confidently incorporate learnings into action.

So much of what Karen Peterman wrote resonated with me. I did not open my firm “on purpose”. I had been working for a large, national nonprofit and unexpectedly found myself separated from the organization on a Friday afternoon (2 months after returning from mat leave). Many of the local affiliates were angry and asked if I considered consulting because they would hire me. I am grateful for my book of business and network providing me referrals. I am in a weird space where I am the external/internal evaluator and often talk clients into scopes of work. They trust me and are along for the ride but since I am the content expert the project management and terms get a little squishy. This leads to the business running me versus the other way around. I honestly didn’t put words to that idea until reading Karen’s post.

I very much look forward to learning with and from you all while navigating uncomfortable and uncharted waters.

Jennifer, I am super interested in seeing the episode to learn more about you and your journey to the Azores.
