Question: A Halloween Horror Story

Asked by:

  • in reply to: Lesson 1: What Are Your Strengths? #1869

Hello everyone. I am a little late to the party but here are my results:

    Strategic | Responsibility | Connectedness | Activator| Ideation

On the Meyers Briggs, I am an INFJ.

Strategic shows up everywhere for me, over and over again, in self-rated tests and in the feedback I receive from others. But sadly I don’t think I am fully tapping into this strength in my work. This is really something to reflect on…

Since I am always looking for patterns, thought it was interesting to note that of those who shared results here, the most common strengths were Learner (11 mentions) and Responsibility (7 mentions).

This is a great idea. Thank you for organizing and count me in!

Hello all. I am based on the island of Faial in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Azores, it’s a chain of volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic located near the junction of the North American, Eurasian, and African tectonic plates. People say that if Hawaii and Ireland had babies, they would look like the Azores. I think that’s pretty accurate: lots of black volcanic rock interspersed by lush cryptomeria forests and green meadows peppered with happily grazing cows. Right now my clients are US based, but I hope to expand that to a more international clientele.

Hey Leticia, it’s nice to meet another person based in Europe. I am in Portugal, in the Azores. I also work remotely with clients around the globe.

Hey Janet, I am also originally from Chicago. I grew up in the northwest suburbs and did undergrad at Northwestern. I have lived in a million places, but a piece of my heart will always be in the windy city and I am at my core, a midwesterner.

Thanks for your interest in the HHI episode. Please forgive my lack of polish and screen presence, I am really not meant to be an actor!  Still, it was great fun to tell a part of my story, and the feedback I have gotten from some viewers is that the episode was inspiring. That made it all worth it!

    Hi Veronica!

I have used Wix in the past. After doing research, I chose Wix because it seemed more user friendly than WordPress. But in the next iteration of my site, I will probably use WordPress because it has more “plug-ins,” i.e. it is more flexible and amenable to customization.

Hope that’s helpful. Happy to chat more if you have any more questions.

Hey everyone! I am so excited to embark on this journey of learning and growth with all of you this year.

I was exposed to Stephanie’s brilliant work when I was enrolled in the M&E grad certificate program at American University, and she has continued to inspire me over the years. In the recent past, I have been attempting to engineer not just a business but a whole life that is more aligned with my values and is also a fuller expression of who I am. So in 2019, I moved to the archipelago of the Azores, where I am setting up a small “digital homestead” in a rural part of one of the islands. My plans are to live simply, growing some of my own food and producing some of my own energy (not there yet) while continuing to contribute and grow professionally by working online. So I guess you could say that I am… a “very remote worker.” 🙂

My plan is to develop a business that blends several of my skills and income streams in writing, editing, storytelling, and data analysis, and I am not exactly sure yet what this is going to look like. The seed has been planted but is still germinating. Let’s see how I bloom this year on this fertile plot of volcanic soil I now call home.

The story of how I came to live on the island was briefly captured in a House Hunters International episode last year. While I have absolutely no aspirations to be a reality TV star (!), this experience helped me discover my inner storyteller. I especially love telling stories that inspire people. My intention is to put that creative ability to use to help organizations tell the story – using words, images, sounds, and video – of the impact of their work in local communities and the world.
