Sounds like a great idea! Imposter syndrome! ‘The story of my life!’ for too many of us!

Not sure if this will help, but I’m finally getting around to the website building and found this resource…https://websitesetup.org/

@Molly you are right! I added in Miami and tried several times next weekend and nothing works out for all times zones. It’s midnight somewhere and good for everyone else!

Does this work for anyone? Other than Sydney folks? Just to get something on the calendar? It’s good Friday and I’m not sure how many people would be unavailable that day?

I like the advice you are getting here! This is when I like to use my “social science ninja skills,” at least that’s what I call it. I really try to get in the minds and perspective of the other people, without becoming close minded. I’ve also learned to become a bit of a chameleon when needed. For example, in a previous role I had to go and interview families that had participated in the foster care system… I wore nice clothes, but very humble clothes, not fancy dress clothes; I also took our 20 year old Toyota Echo, not the nicer Acura that we inherited. Another example, when I managed a farm in the Galapagos, a very male environment, I would do small things like walk ahead of the other men and convey very confident body language. I’m not like that at all, but I had to walk the walk and talk the talk (literally) to get respect.

I am still authentic, but sometimes I display different sides of myself when needed. So I use all the social science skills I’ve learned along the way, try to read the room, and present a version of myself that will increase my likelihood of earning trust more quickly.

I love this idea. I’m kind of bouncing all over right now! But I think the next thing I need to get accomplished is a draft website. My goal is to have this done by April 30.

Is it accurate to say that we are all located somewhere between Germany (UTC +1) to West Coast US (UTC – 7)?

Is anyone in another time zone that’s not between these two?

I use notion to organize info, notes and websites. It’s free and so convenient. It also has a chrome plug-in so I can quickly archive a website I want to come back to in one of my folders. I sound like I’m making a sells pitch for it. I’m working for a software development center and learned of it through them and have grown to really love it.

It would be really interesting to do an analysis to see which strengths we have in common. I also have learner in my top 5, but there have to be other motivators for taking this course. This was really insightful!

Wow! I’m impressed! I have zero influencer strengths! Zero!

Currently located on the Northern Oregon coast. We just moved here from Hawaii 2 months ago. I know, I know, what were we thinking leaving Hawaii for Oregon in the middle of winter, right? $6 for a gallon of milk and our gas cost more than what everyone is freakout out about today. We were ‘priced out of paradise!” Literally and figuratively. Not sure where to next, but we will probably be here for a few more months…maybe? Before Hawaii I was based in the Galapagos Island for about 10 years, the Bronx for a few, with a couple short stints in the Andes of Ecuador and rural Eastern Oregon. And other sites for research, but that’s another story.

Good luck on your job search! And great job landing interviews!

I hear you! We just moved to the Oregon coast. By we I mean with my husband and two kids, and it’s all new for them. However, I grew up here and left 20 years ago and have mostly lived on tropical islands since (Galapagos and Hawaii) so this is a huge culture, and temperature, shock for us! I hope you have a smooth transition back home.

    Hi Camille,

I’m in the same boat as you…purchased the domain (over a year ago now), but between life demands, work, and not sure what to do I still haven’t created a website. I am really confident that in a couple of months when we are done with this course we will be in a better place and ready to make some moves!

Hi Everyone! I’m still trying to get caught up, my apologies, I’ve been busy juggling a ton of other things the last few weeks. It’s been so great to read your blurbs and learn more about each of you. I definitely feel like I’m in the right place.

I’m also a mom (9 y.o. and 2 y.o.). Just moved from Hawaii to Oregon. Yes, I know that sounds crazy, but the cost of living in Hawaii is also crazy, as is the slow economic recovery from COVID. I’m also a recovering academic in my own way.

In a nut shell, I was an educator, moved to Ecuador, spent 10 years in the Galapagos Islands, moved to Hawaii to get my Ph.D. in Geography (behavioral geography). I followed monkeys and raccoons around a national park in Costa Rica, waited for them to attack people, and then studied why people followed park rules regarding wildlife. That sounds much more entertaining than saying I study the situational and psychological antecedents of pro-environmental behaviors, and the context of my research was rule compliance in to inform national park visitor management in Costa Rica.

I have experience as an educator, program manager, evaluator/research analyst (which is when I got to take Stephanie’s Data Viz academy), and then landed a job where I could apply my conservation social psych skills and led the Marine 30×30 Initiative for the State of Hawaii, that is until COVID happened and we lost all funding. I was gutted, but it was honestly a blessing in disguise.

Since then I’ve been working as a UX researcher/program manager/social scientist/govt liaison for a software development center based out of UH Maui, and in the last 6 months or so I’ve decided to start my own business since it’s been so hard to find and land my dream job.

I’ve been studying the market (and competition) and see a few resources where they apply and teach how to use behavioral insights in the real world, but with my background in conservation psych and education I’ve realized (1) I’m better qualified than most of the others out there trying to do this work and (2) I could do a better job. As a plus, it’s what I love, and I feel myself passionate and excited about the future, something I haven’t felt in awhile.

I’m really excited to be here and learn with all of you, learn from you, and hopefully share my own insights when possible!

    Kerrie
