Thank you both! And yes – I can easily see how this is a never ending project!

I believe because I’ll be losing coverage when my job ends I’ll qualify outside the “open enrollment” period but I’ll double check. Last I looked there were so. many. options. to choose from!

Ack! I hope everyone feels better soon (we’re sick here too) and so glad you had friendly faces to help you through it!
Thank you! This is really helpful. We’re still working out what we’ll do this fall but I promise to circle back and update. I’m leaning toward a similar set up based on the office hours conversation (a higher base price that we’d anticipated but higher discount offerings).
Stephanie has brilliant advice, of course. I’ll add that I often feel like my whole working life has been faking it until I make it (which of course isn’t fair to me because I’m well studied, experienced, etc. as I suspect you are too) but I hope it helps to hear that you are NOT alone, and that we’re all faking it until we make it to some extent. I am sure that folks have a lot to gain for showing up to your webinar, and it might also not be for everyone and that has to be ok too (this can be hard for me but it also helps relieve the pressure). I also feel like all the best things that have happened in my life have happened because I did something I didn’t feel 100% ready for.
My other favorite self-soothing techniques when I’m doing new scary (or just scary) things is 1) to do a huge full body shake/brush off before hand. It sounds (and looks) a little nutty but I literally try to shake and brush the anxiety off my body and it gets my blood flowing a little. And 2) to say to myself – in a few hours (or tomorrow, etc.), I’ll be on the other side of this, and I’ll have a new perspective on it. I don’t know why that helps but it does!
I hope some of this resonates! We’ll be rooting for you.
I just signed my first “real” contract (at least since I started this most recent journey anyway) for a few pieces of work that I’m really excited about!
I can sure try! I was fighting an uphill battle with WordPress on this page but that is bugging me too!
I think this counts as a win – I spent spring break working on this page of my website: http://www.leonardrande.com/values – incorporating and articulating the soul-searching I’ve been doing through this course (and supported by strengths finder). I’m still tinkering with the language and the doodles, and welcome feedback!
Love this!
Super appreciate this! I ended up negotiating scope more than rate – we set a rate for the overall project and dialed back the expectations about scope to get much closer to my desired rate, if that makes sense.
On a related note – I’m also declaring now that I will only support one small pro bono project per year (I’m volunteering with an organization I love now through my ‘day job’ and will continue working with them but keep it really contained (fortunately it has been). That feels like an important boundary for me, and I’m thinking about declaring that I’ll only do one “discount” situation per year as well…. 😀
Thank you both!
I love your website and mission so much! I studied anthropology as an undergrad and zig-zagged my way to program evaluation via a masters in public admin/social work. I still have a soft spot for museums and have had the opportunity to work with some amazing arts+museum folks via my foundation role. Often those have been opportunities to do particularly creative work, which I always appreciate. I am super curious to learn more about your work and look forward to being in this community together!
KaYing – I love the idea of getting to a “minimal viable product” and would welcome a chat sometime about evaluation within philanthropy as a fellow community foundation – I think there’s a lot of possibility (my biggest challenge is focusing!).

Kim Leonard replied on February 24, 2023 at 11:36 pm in reply to: LImiting recorded content… or not? #3269I just had this come up – or something quite similar anyway! A group I’m doing a small workshop for wanted me to sign off on letting them record and distribute the recording to their members and workshop participants. My co-facilitator and I usually do longer versions of these workshops together and typically don’t allow recording (or share our slides), but this was a special scenario (a mini version, and an important relationship building opportunity for me).
So, initially I just asked a question – can we limited sharing the recording just to participants? (I was also thinking about putting a time limit on it). I was pleasantly surprised when the person coordinating said –Â Sure, no problem, but it’d be easier to just not record, how does that sound? It was a big relief! I was so worried about push-back and I got the opposite. I don’t have a ton of experience with this yet but I think starting with questions is often helpful when broaching anything sticky.
I’m not sure if that’s helpful here exactly – but maybe thinking about what limitations might be valuable is a first step, or asking them who they want to share the recording with and using that to determine limitations you’re comfortable with (if you decide to allow recording at all – there are pros and cons!).
