Asked by:

oh man I just hired a web designer and now I want to ask you how much you paid your consultant. Maybe you can tell me when we have our Zoom.

I like Keel and Compass, and it does not feel too long to write even though it is three words. Is that URL available? Or would you shorten it?

At first glance I am not drawn to the Steel options either.

I don’t have personal experience with this but my employer did an RFP for our strategic planning last fall and 2 of the 14 orgs that submitted (and were not selected) requested feedback. We used our notes from the rubric we developed to give them feedback. One of those applicants got feedback on price (as well as other things.)

Our RFP included a budget maximum, so that may be another dissimilarity to your experience.

The LinkedIn webinar Stephanie shared with us from Amanda Goetz had good ideas for how to do this as well. The webinar was pitching a software called Taplio but her ideas work independently of it.

The replay is a public Drive link so I think it’s ok to share here? Also it might have expired already but she had an affiliate link to try the software for a month for one dollar:

I would recommend watching the video but kind of as others have said, you take a few core ideas and say them different ways. She goes through a couple of examples 19 minutes in.

Since this thread is about LI I wanted to share this PSA: LinkedIn Learning (all of it) is free to you through your library system (in US anyway.)

I am consistently surprised by how many people are surprised by this info.

Libraries; use ’em or lose ’em!

in reply to: Funnel platforms – insight from users and non- #4531

I’m seeing ads for this product called FG Funnels which is a white label iof high level. It promises to do everything. Like, everything. But the minute you cancel you lose any template or plugin of theirs you were using. So it seems like a (product) lifetime commitment.

Software that helps you build and manage your marketing and sales pipeline. So it could just be tools that your web platform already has – like plugins on WordPress for your free download content. Or there are other much more sophisticated platforms that are kind of an all-in-one marketing software…CRM, membership portal, builds out your sales page (funnels), email copy, etc.

I guess I am wondering if people use these all in one products versus having different apps for parts of the process. Like using Jira for project management, Calendly for booking, Squarespace add ons for hosting courses and taking payment, etc. Or if anyone has used an all-in-one product.

Thanks! It’s a relief to hear all options are on the table and it just comes down to negotiation.

    thanks Rye!

Reading this post makes me want to turn this spreadsheet into a monday.com board! (that’s how I keep track of tasks). In all honesty this is one of the services I plan to provide through my consulting work – but the reason it’s a service is because I love doing it and am good at it.

What project management software do you use at Radiance?

in reply to: Question about product ladders #4342

I wonder if in your case is the product ladder more about just helping to create a sales funnel / getting contact info so you can continue marketing to people until the time is right for them to purchase the customized services they need?

    Other ideas –

Could the advice product be a buying guide on what to look for in a provider? Like Stephanie’s example of the mattress buying guide?

Would an audit product make sense? My assumptions: It costs a little less and gives people quality info, builds trust, and is useful to the work you would do if they engaged for the highest rung of the ladder. But maybe it also is a lot of work and then folks take it to another firm?

    in reply to: Hello! #4328

Hi Jennifer! I’m so glad you responded and that there is someone here maybe going through similar “seed” experiences as me. Will you be at the first Office Hours? Maybe we can connect before then – I’d love to hear more about your experiences so far.

I think the meeting with my boss went really well. The short of it is we have worked together as the first and second employees of a nonprofit for 12 years now, and it is time for a change. We went to breakfast to talk things through, and essentially both had the same idea – that sometime this Spring I should resign from my FTE position and move into a contract role doing the kind of work I am setting up my LLC for. So I will have an anchor client and my finances will not take a significant hit (for a while anyway – the org needs me and it’s in the budget so it’s as sure-fire a thing as a consultant can get – I think?)

I don’t know that I would ever be brave enough to do my own thing full time if I didn’t have the financial security this will provide, so I am extremely grateful and very excited.

Here is a pic of my sister and I yesterday at the end of a 3-day home office reno marathon. Her gift to me for Christmas. I’m in the red shirt.

in reply to: Feedback on my business name #4213

Thank you Bridget, I appreciate your insights. Yep I have been trying to think about how it will be misspelled, misremembered, misinterpreted, mispronounced…. The org I work for now has a number in the name, but also uses spaces (imagine Way 2 Be or some such) and it is always being concatenated, or written with the preposition instead of the numeral. It’s very confusing for people and gets tiresome for us. So I think I am fixating a little on the name because of that experience.

I was thinking pattern – AY – lee – uh. Hearing it with /ah/ makes me laugh very hard because when I say it that way it sounds like I am mimicking a British accent and it’s…bad.
