Question: Bio Makeovers

There was one particular project that had me feeling this way, and I sent off a message declining it last night, and instantly felt much lighter. I can work overtime for orgs I love without batting an eye, but this org was feeling “icky” around how profit focused they were.

Thanks for this discussion, ladies. I’ve got a basic landing page for my website right now but have been toying with downloadables and a blog as well. I’ve had almost all my work connections through LinkedIn, but it’s actually really hard to get (valid) emails from that platform.

Hi Jessica and others 🙂  I am also dealing with the “how to productize consulting” question. I’ve been doing grant writing, where the donor basically sets the level of effort. I have a few ideas on lowest rung entry, which are basically versions of workbooks that create a template for a grant. I’m toying with whether a course on “how to write a grant” with peer review along the way would be a mid-tier option or a top tier option… My prices have started at $4000 for writing the grant directly, and those are for short grants. But launching a course would be a big lift too. I do have an “Office Hours” option where someone can run things by me for an hour, but I’m not sure if the value add to clients is worth the disruption of my day’s flow. So, I haven’t advertised it much.

Hello Maia. I didn’t even think about research and evaluation for museums being a thing, but of course it would be. I do proposal writing, mainly for NGOs in the “Global South”. I’ve been at it off and on for a few years, but seriously just for the last two. Do you use time tracking with your projects? I’ve been using Harvest to get a more accurate picture of what is required for various projects. But it’s also fun to see how much more efficient I get with various projects (which is definitely an argument for not charging by the hour!).
