Question: How to Shut Down a Service

    Cool. Thanks for this Stephanie!

But, 45 likes? Per post?  My median is probably 5. 🙂

Don’t worry Ann… it’ll happen. That’s my plan too… to get my name to pop up in someone’s brain when they think about something in particular.

It’s happening.. I had 3 people email me the same contract opportunity on the same day as they thought of me when they saw it.

I think it only happened because I try to always have *something* fresh going out. It’s often a little goofy, and as I build more content, it’ll be easier.

Some posts get no interactions, and some get a lot… so I’m just playing averages. 🙂

I thought I’d ask about LinkedIn here too… and what you all do.

I *do* fit the profile of a geek and if there’s something I’m interested in (or interested in changing), I’ll track data in a spreadsheet for it to find patterns or trends (or just to motivate myself re exercise or healthy eating).

I’ve been tracking some of the free stats LinkedIn provides for over a year now and right now I know that on average, only 2% of my post impressions turn into engagements (likes, loves, supports, comments) but that my new follower numbers average at 0.5% of Impressions.

In english, that means that for every ~200 impressions my posts get, I get a new follower.

Once I realized that, I felt my building a posting schedule is paying off (I’ve gotten clients directly from LinkedIn already).

    For sure Ann. 🙂

She’s well organized (I’m already in the process of building something similar, but Joe-created content, haha).

Hey all… I went to this, and wasn’t too impressed.

It was essentially an hour to say “take the things you’re good at and talk about them in different ways” with Taplio / AI doing the writing work. She never actually showed how it actually works (like, inputting things and getting outputs).

So, I was all “I don’t need AI for this” and I was chatting with Amanda March (cohort 3) who was also there and she seemed to get the same impression.

Related, I’m starting to really hate that so many people are using AI to write. Everything Medium recommends to me in their daily newsletters (a lot of dashboard / Power BI stuff) is AI junk writing… none of it reads like it was written by an actual human (and the visualization posts are frequently ALL text, or have some horrible AI dataviz graphics)…. so I think as more people use AI, posts that are obviously written by a person will be more rare (and more valuable).

    Good question Karen.

For teaching workshops it’s more cut-and-dry (I’m going to teach you these things, and it’ll cost ____)

For design projects, I try to get really detailed about what the cost includes, as it seems a lot more variables come into play for these.

    Awesome Susanne!

You’ll do great and it’s so cool that you’ll have so much work you’ll need help!

oh, I was wrong.. the newsletter post I was thinking about above was about books, not podcasts. 🙂

    You’re doing amazing, Sarah!

It *does* feel weird at first, Sarah. 🙂

I just try to not make it Sales-y… more like “This is me. This is what I do. This is how I can help you.”

    Re the Rush Requests:

I have a few clients who want my support on more of an on-call basis, so we arrange something where they can ask me whatever whenever, but they pay a much higher rate.

I can’t remember if this question was in the context of a larger contract, but I’m continually learning to put a ton of details in my design contracts (or ask for these to be added to contracts if the org wants to use their own). I never want to do a bunch of “extra” stuff they’ve decided they want.

LOL, I didn’t notice that Stephanie called you out like that Sarah. 😉

Yeah, you posting on your own profile is more “Sarah”. Loved the points about people want to connect with people.

Oh, that’s a great question Karen.

My lower rungs are basically my newsletter and a new online learning resource I’m building that has a free tier… and I post about each of those weekly, getting my name out there to get it in people’s heads and get them “on the ladder”.

I also try to post once a week (I don’t always make it) about paid workshops I offer. Each post is specific to a kind of workshop and a method (online/in-person).
