We talked about how important it is that I explain (and sell) my process not just the final product. I would be very interested in your feedback if what I wrote on my website is working and doing the job. I am not sure the description of the process is in the right place on the website. And the process does not have a cool acronym or something.

If you do have some time and would like to have a look at my website and the process, I will appreciate any feedback. Is it this what we talked about? Should I market the process more? Right now it feels a little bit like a side note, more like, hey, and by the way: this is what I actually do. Let me know what you think if you find the time. Thanks!

Does anyone (zoom master Dave :-))know if there are life captions or are they appearing only later in the recorded version? I did have a hard time following everything and some things were just too fast and I didn‘t get it.

    Hi Letizia,

I took it in English and German. I would say that the translation is good, at least for German. The result was a bit different, though. That could mean that

    1. I didn’t understand some of the English vocabulary

    2. The translation made me choose different things because I interpreted or weighted some of the statements differently

    3. I was in a different mood or other effects like it contribute to the test being not super robust

    4. It was the effect of me taking the test a second time, that means I have read the results and knew the questions already.

    Hi Denali,

good to hear that I am not alone! If I ever find the golden way how to stay calm in the face of daily challenges, I will publish a book and become really rich 😉 Well, for me it always helps to remind myself that everybody is just doing their best.

The four year old is not throwing a tantrum to drive me crazy, but it is an actual real problem for her in this very moment that I added the yoghurt on top of the cornflakes (and not the other way around).

I take strength from these experiences. For me, my children were (and still are) an excellent lesson about people. I learned to acknowledge that different things matter to different people. I learned how to compromise by thinking about the needs behind their actions, instead of focusing on the immediate actions / demands.

Being able to handle a yoghurt-tantrum gives me confidence that whatever crazy thing clients will do – it won’t shock me.

I try to stay calm, feel empathy, take others seriously, insist on being taken seriously, communicate my needs clearly and draw a line where a line needs to be drawn. And see the humorous side of the one year old cleaning the toilet with his toothbrush, after he dumped the toothpaste and my underwear into the toilet.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Lauren. When I read this, I thought that „taking responsibility“ might be behind your action taking?

That is definitely what would made have me going out and replanting that tree. Seeing the mistake and feeling that urge to fix it to spare the poor tree the consequences of being planted too low.

I liked the idea of thinking motivation being what makes me take action. I just started thinking along that line, so up until this point I cannot really say what the connection to my business design is or will be. But exited to see where this will end up.

Hello everyone, I am Susanne, the cake baker sitting in the closet spending her days with action faking 😉 Oh, and yes, I am also one of those perfectionism people, who get things done either in perfection or … never.
Nevertheless, I am confident some of my other personality traits can compensate and that there is hope after all 🙂

More about me: studied Molecular Biotechnology, PhD in biology, strong interest in science communication, explaining and teaching, photography, drawing; married with 3 little children (6, 4 and 1). That means I am used to loosing my mind on a daily basis – however, Stephanie’s promise that we can do this business thing while keeping our sanity sounds good.

More about my business: started right after my PhD in 2013, my product: illustrations explaining scientific ideas or projects. Clients: scientists. My focus is on developing concepts / drafts how these ideas can be communicated (I understand the science AND I know about design), i.e. it is way more than just drawing stuff. The great majority of my income is generated by teaching PhD students how to visually communicate their science with posters, graphical abstracts or in scientific figures.

Challenges: social media (scary, haven’t really had the guts to start it), business strategy (not sure, but looks like my clients are not willing to pay what is necessary for me to actually make a good living from it, I might re-position my business.)

Looking forward to the exchange of ideas and experiences within this community!
